Shawn Kipnis – BDR at Kaleyra

Shawn Kipnis - BDR at Kaleyra

Think all sales people are pushy?

Think again! 💡

BDR at KaleyraShawn Kipnis serves an important reminder that at the end of the day, we’re all human.

This week on the #salestage, Shawn shares about breaking #SalesDevelopment stigmas and how he plans to make BDRing a lifelong career.

🙋‍♂️ YOUR GO-TO FOR ADVICE

I love to collaborate with other BDRs, and of course I go to my BDR manager for advice. Plus, the LinkedIn community has helped me find new tips and helpful strategies for outbound prospecting and more!

👎 MOST OVERRATED SALES TIP

“Get your open rates up” is so overrated. Yes, you should look at open rates, but we should focus more on what happened with the contacts we emailed. Take a closer look at your reply and conversion rates.

💼 WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WEREN’T IN SALES

This is tough, but if I weren’t in sales, I’d probably be selling sports tickets (I went to college for Sports Management). Or I might have ended up in retail.

I chose to be a BDR Lifer because we can use the experiences throughout our whole careers. I just had a CEO tell me he was BDRing for his startup!

💥 SALES SUPER POWER

I love making sales processes and tech stacks more efficient. The first time I was laid off turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Shortly after that, I started working for a sales engagement tech organization.

I learned about marketing automation tools, CRMs, and other sales software and how they interact. That’s where my passion for making processes more efficient came from. I love to see how my efficiency helps so many others in the company.

🧠 WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BDRS

BDRs are not ALL the stereotypical pushy salespeople. We are much more strategic and respect a “No”. We are humans and try to be as human as possible with our outreach.

I want to help break the stigma that BDRs are entry-level or are just appointment setters. We are so much more than that and deserve just as much respect as C-Level executives. We are all in this together and are all humans!
