“Slow down and stay curious”
Josh Norris is dropping gems today đź’Ž
One of Lavender‘s finest shares with the #SalesDevelopment community how important it is to find balance outside of work and lean into tough feedback. Josh, welcome to the #salestage!

🏆 WHAT EVERY SALES LEADER NEEDS TO SUCCEED
Honest self-awareness
Ability to have hard conversations
Self-teaching outside of work
Ability to tap into team members’ individual motivations
Strong understanding of the numbers
Ability to manage up
Experience as individual contributors
đź’Ş HARDEST FEEDBACK
The hardest piece of feedback is also one that I also give out regularly. An interviewer a couple years ago said I spoke too fast and for too long. He said to slow down, take a breath, and answer only the question he asked – not the one I thought he was going to ask next.
đź’¸ LAST TIME YOU NEGOTIATED
Every time we place our will against someone else’s and seek to find a middle ground where both can win, it’s a negotiation. Whether it’s deciding with our partner where to eat, setting next steps after a routine demo call, or hammering out a 7-figure contract – they’re all negotiations.
🙋‍♂️ EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SALESPEOPLE
The snake oil salesman stereotype isn’t the norm. Most salespeople I’ve met just want to create a better life for themselves or their families.
🤡 HOW DO YOU BLOW OFF STEAM
Martial arts, walking outside, video games, tv, the gym, and going out dancing. Sometimes I like quiet activities where I can shut out other people and have introverted time. Other times I like physical activities where I can shut off my brain and exercise my body. I need a balance of both in my life.
🌱 SOMETHING YOU HOPE CHANGES ABOUT SALES
More realistic goals coming from the board and senior leadership. If sales team goals are based in reality and responsible/sustainable growth, then we’ll see less layoffs, longer tenure of sales leaders, and more resilient companies.
